The old slogan is true: You're not just getting older. You REALLY are getting better.

The other day I read one of those studies that I really do need to share with you. At Texas A&M University, researchers found that older adults rule.

Specifically, the study data shows that older adults are better able to evaluate life decisions – both immediate and their future benefits – and make decisions in a way that's better than younger adults.

I love the whys.

Here we go: When you're younger you use your brain's ventral striatum to make your picks.

When you get older, your brain shifts your decision making to the prefrontal cortices, which is an area that deals with rational thinking in a more deliberate way.

Here are a few other reasons to rejoice because you're truly not just getting older, but also getting better.

*Your Brain Is Even More Amazing Now. Another study shows that your brain grows in cognitive abilities as we get older and even uses more of its power to solve problems. Studies show our brains actually reach their peak performance levels between 40 and 68. Yes, you are the smartest one in the room…unless there's some 68-year-old next to you.

*You Get Fewer Colds As You Age. Doctors agree that you've already spent a lifetime building up your immunity to the common cold and now comes the pay-off. Studies show that as we age, we're more resistant to the cold bug. But the flu still wrecks havoc and can be serious, so don't ignore getting your flue shot. It's also helpful to practice meditation or other stress relief options to avoid the flu.

*Your Heart Ages More Slowly Now. After a certain age, your heart actually begins to age more slowly. You can thank your parents for a good ticker, but also keep an eye on your diet, exercise and cholesterol levels to keep your heart healthy and make sure to get your blood pressure in line.

*You Will Worry Less. A study at the University of California at Riverside shows as we age, people are less worried after 50. Why? Some people aren't living in the vortex of having it all anymore when it comes to work and material success. In fact, the study showed that our worry levels drop sharply after 50.

*You Can Admire How French Women Age – And Steal Their Number One Beauty Secret. A study shows that French women from age 12 and up never leave the house without sunscreen. It's never too late to heed their advice. French actress Leslie Caron, 70ish, says her mom told her, "Women's skin is too fair to go bare."
