"You like me, you really like me"! How could I forget Sally Field's oh-so memorable Oscar speech in an article I wrote recently bemoaning the absence of memorable women's speeches!
It meets the criteria of being in the collective consciousness: Knowing it by heart without even knowing you know it.
Sally Field's speech turned out to be prescient as well as of-the-moment. Because here she is, resplendent in hot pink at 66 — she just celebrated her birthday on November 6th — with another memorable screen performance to add to her very long roster.
She did say she had to fight for years for the role of Mary Todd in Spielberg's new film Lincoln. Not only that, she had to gain 25 pounds! reports the Daily Beast. The weight turned out to be too much for her petite 5'3" frame and forced her to have knee surgery – a cautionary tale about being overweight if there ever was one (plus, it took her 6 months to gain it and over a year to lose it — I think we're all familiar with that math).
Her hot pink frock hits all the seasons trends, such as lace and brocade and sheer (and Cate Blanchett* made hot pink a red carpet choice as well) – and yet Sallly still looks fresh-faced and classy not trendy.
And even though I've said no sheer over 50*, Sally Field pulls it off with ease and aplomb, so rules are clearly made to be broken.
Check out this interview with Sally Field about fighting for what you want, then letting it go — losing and winning. Life is a rollercoaster no matter how old you are....
