It's O-V-E-R. No one knows that better than Kyra Sedgwick who is about to split with her other half.
No, no, no, she's still happily married to Kevin Bacon. But she will say adios to her long-standing TV character starting tonight, which marks the beginning of the last season of her TNT series, "The Closer."
Kyra plays iconic Deputy Chief Brenda Leigh Johnson, but now the end for her TV alter ego is near, which has fans walking around with frowns that could cause permanent wrinkles.
I ask Kyra: Will her mascara run on the last day?
"Oh forget it when it comes to the last episode. I'll be crying the whole time. I can't even think about it now or I'll get weepy. It's going to be so hard. I can't even imagine…."
Is it really over?
"Yes, this is the last season although I keep hearing, 'Say it isn't so,'" Kyra says.
A QUICK STYLE LESSON
Even when her Brenda is in the most heinous situations, she still looks amazing. What is the secret?
Kyra just starts to laugh while taking a break on the set.
"I always find it so incredibly sweet when someone says, 'You look good.' The truth is I have a lot of great hair and makeup people, plus the best lighting.
"That's why women out there shouldn't feel bad when they try to copy an actresses' look and it doesn't quite work," she says. "Most of the time, we have a team working on us."
"If you see me looking great in a photo, one word: airbrushing," she jokes.
But maybe she protests too much.
"My real secret is that I eat healthy, which just shows on every part of your body especially your skin," she says. "I make sure to exercise at least a few times a week. Let your hair air-dry. Don't fry it with tools."
"Beyond that I think the best beauty secret isn't anything cosmetic," she says. "You just try to keep your head clear when it comes to all the insanity in your life."
BODY AND MIND
Kyra has always had a to-die-for figure. She says that exercise helps her "blow out the stress."
"I'll blow it out in a spin class," she says. "The point is you must get moving and do something that makes you sweat. It really helps me get my endorphins going."
She also focuses inward.
"I try to breathe deeply when I can. I remember that worrying is a total waste of time," she says.
"Ultimately, if a problem comes, you will deal with it when you must deal with it and then move on," she reasons. "I hate worrying because the crazy outcomes you come up with in your mind usually never come true. Plus, it's a total waste of time."
"Of course, that doesn't completely stop me from worrying about my kids and husband," she says. "But with age, I think the great thing is as women we have a lot in our tool belts to help us deal with the rough moments in life."
She says age has taught her to allow problems to mature instead of creating fine lines on her face.
"Freaking kids make you worry all the time, don't they?" she jokes. "They call you and say the world is ending and five minutes later when you're still upset they're happy again. The problem is gone.
"That's why, you will get wrinkles unless you allow some issues to just work themselves out."
A GREAT MATE
She says it helps to have a husband like Kevin Bacon who smoothes out the wrinkles. They met when she was only 21 on a movie called "Lemon Sky."
"I felt so incredibly at home with him right way, but when we met it wasn't love at first sight," she insists.
"I thought he was full of himself, but it was a total cover for the fact that he felt nervous around me.
"I never in a million years thought that guys get that nervous," she whoops.
It's not like she was so calm either. "Within two weeks, I was smitten. Then I thought, 'Why isn't he asking me to marry him? What's taking so long?'
"It's absurd when I think back on it," she says. "People even asked me later on after we were engaged, 'Are you sure?' I said, 'There is no part of me that isn't sure.'"
BYE BYE BRENDA
She's just as sure about calling it quits on her long running TV series, "The Closer."
"I know I'm doing the right thing by ending the show. My contract was over and I really agonized with the decision for a year.
As an artist, I've been having a great time. But I do think it's time for me to do other things. It's time for me to play other characters. For seven years, I've been away from my home and my family," she says.
Any hints on how the series will end?
"Last year, I left someone back in his neighborhood unprotected knowing his fellow gang members would kill him. This is a specific case that went wrong, which is ironic given all the other times Brenda took the law into her own hands.
"Will it come back to haunt her? I'm not going to answer that one," she says with a laugh.
"All I can say is Brenda needs a spin class to stop stressing. As her work falls apart, she has to find other means of holding herself together," she says.
