Baby, it's hot outside, which means it's time to summer-ize your beauty routine for the sizzling weather months.
You could hit Nordies, stock up and then recoil when the credit card bill comes in.
Of course, you could cheap out, but I prefer to chic out on a budget.
With the economy still dicey, it's time to delve into Chic-economics.
Translation: You don't need to spend a fortune to look warm weather pretty and can try out different looks for basically nada. To that end, I went to a slew of different Hollywood beauty experts to ask how you can look glam for a gorgeous summer:
HUMID-VILLE
*As a Chicago native, I always knew it was summer when my hair expanded several inches skyward thanks to all that humidity. Realizing the '80s are long since over, I needed help. A cheap way to get rid of the frizz (and one used on film sets) is to grab a Bounce dryer sheet. Swipe it down your hairshaft and the flyaways are gone. Go the extra step and put the used Bounce sheet into your sneakers. Goodbye any hot weather odors.
*With all the fun summer events and activities, it's easy to use a lot of hairspray and other products to achieve a perfect look. Hello, product build-up, which means lifeless and dull hair with no shine. A quick way to get rid of it is to grab 1 cup of tomato juice and 1 teaspoon of cornstarch. Mix them together and pour over your clean, wet hair. Step out of the shower and wrap your hair in an old towel because the mixture will stain. Sit it out for 10 minutes and shampoo again and rinse. The mix will restore your natural PH level, which will leave you with amazing bounce and shine.
REDUCE THE REDNESS
*If you're prone to a reddish complexion, it only gets worse during those flushed hot weather months. The solution isn't to walk around all day in heavy foundation.
After your skin doc has ruled out any medical reasons for your ruddiness, try this DIY trick to calm it down from skin care expert to the stars, Sonya Dakar: Take 3 ½ ounces of brewed rose hip tea plus 3 ½ ounces of chamomile tea and 2 ounces of aloe vera juice. Brew the teas and let them cool to room temperature. Shake all the liquids together in a martini shaker or pitcher. Pour this liquid into a misting bottle. Wash your face with your regular cleanser and use this mist twice a day to reduce redness.
STICK TO SOFT DRINKS
It might be tempting to down a few tropical cocktails, but if you have a big event coming up limit your alcoholic drinks. Sonya Dakar says it will cause "bloating, dullness and dark circle." So put down that Cosmo.
EASY MAKEUP TRICKS
*Running to the beach or the pool for the day? Just take a tip from gorgeous rocker Sheryl Crow, 49. "All you need is some lip-gloss and mascara. You're out the door in five minutes."
*Worried that your makeup will wash-off in the pool. Try waterproof mascara, but don't forget a little brow-liner for a little extra glam. Maybelline makes a liner that makeup artists love because it will never turn orange.
*Pack cotton balls and Q-tips instead of your expensive makeup brushes in your beach bag. Use them to reapply what you want and toss them. Add some Almay makeup removing pads in case you take a dip and leftover makeup runs. One swipe and it's gone.
*Let's say you don't want to invest in some $30 Chanel shimmering lip-gloss because you're just not sure it's your look. Try this instead: Put some creamy light colored shimmering eye shadow on your lips covered by the same gloss. It's an inexpensive way to try a look out for a day without investing yet.
BEACHY CLEAN
*Got sand? For five minutes, it's nice to scrunch it under your toes and then the sand is just plain annoying when it sticks to you. To prevent this sprinkle a little bit of Johnson's Baby Powder on your legs and feet before you touch a speck of sand. Nothing will stick to you. (It's also a great way to make sure your grandchildren don't trek sand back into your car.)
AFTER A LATE NIGHT UNDER THE STARS
*Preparation H is a quick way to get rid of any under eye puff from a late night. Just a dab quickly takes the swelling down.
*Go for an old fashioned trick that Goldie Hawn taught her daughter Kate Hudson. Take out a big bowl and fill it will water and a handful of ice. Wash your face with ice water and any puffiness will be instantly gone and circulation will be revived. By the way, vintage stars like Bette Davis and Joan Crawford did this daily before their close-up.
*Tip from an LA makeup guru: If your face feels puffy then pop an ice cube into your mouth and hold it against the roof of your mouth with your tongue. Hold for a minute – if you can. This reduces facial puff from the inside out.
GETTING SWIMSUIT READY
*Try Na-PCA spray, which can be found at Whole Foods. Men can use it on their face and women can apply it gingerly to non-internal areas around their bikini line after a wax or shave to prevent ingrowns or rough skin. Tea tree oil will also do the job.
