Designer Wisdom: All Women Have Sexy Shoulders

Few looks are as universally flattering as the cold shoulder dress, like Sofia Milos wore to a recent movie premiere in California.

The cold shoulder dress (or top) is a silhouette which features cut out shoulders to expose your bare shoulders. The cold shoulder look works on the simple premise that most of us women still have sexy shoulders.

"I love playing with shoulder designs because it accentuates the positive," Donna Karan says on her website. "It's also just sexy."

Donna Karan — who promoted the cold shoulder look — famously dressed two then middle-aged women in her cold shoulder dress in 1992: Liza Minelli in a cold shoulder dress at the Oscars and Candice Bergen at the Emmys.

Twenty years later, women over 40 — like Sofia Milos — are still wearing the cold shoulder design to show some skin without too much exposure.
