If there's one thing we can all agree on in fashion, it's that comfort rules.
We all want comfy shoes, comfortable jeans and cozy knits. We may not agree on colors, prints, labels or prices, but every woman appreciates her comfort.
Some fashion types sniff their noses at the idea you can be comfortable and look gorgeous at the same time. These types – who equate fashion with 5 inch heels and dreadfully constrictive clothing – seem to lump all comfort clothes into the Forever Lazy or Pajama Jean category.
But Diane von Furstenberg, who is in her mid 60s, believes that comfort equals beauty.
Here's what she told Time:
Her clothes "are very comfortable, they mold to your body, they are very flexible, and they make you really comfortable. And if you're comfortable you feel confident. And if you're confident you feel beautiful."
Diane von Furstenberg's line features luscious jerseys – and that iconic wrap dress – which aim to show off the feminine form but have an ease about them.
Another famous designer who believed in ease was Coco Chanel who first made jersey chic almost 100 years ago (before that it was used to make underwear.) One of her most famous quotes: "Luxury must be comfortable, otherwise it is not luxury."
It's this idea of effortless style – and ease – that make the notion of comfort equaling beauty so attractive for us women of a certain age.
