Fashion Week's Answer to Wrinkles?

Fashion has quietly been in tune with our changing needs

Design duo Erickson Beamon has finally done it: created a decorative answer to the facelift.

Ridiculous, you say? What if someone would've told you 25 years ago that someday you'd consider shooting toxins into your wrinkles?

OK, I admit that design duo Karen Erickson and Vicki Beamon — who design gorgeous pieces worn by the likes of Michelle Obama and Madonna – probably didn't intend for this jewelry to be worn in place of a nip/tuck. The pieces are actually variations — shown during Fashion Week — of the elaborate jeweled headgear they designed for Lady Gaga. But you have to admit it makes a pretty good disguise for wrinkles and saggy jowls.

It's not really that outrageous to suggest that at some point there will be some sort of contraption or decoration to hide/detract from aging faces; a quiet revolution has been underway the past few years that has shifted the style consciousness to adapt for an influential, aging generation.

There are jeans that give you an instant tummy tuck and butt lift (Not Your Daughter's Jeans and knockoffs), undergarments to shape you without pain (Spanx and imitators) and major trends that seem like they were designed with us in mind (tunics, longer-length skirts and stretch fabrics.)

Fashion overall is experiencing a major grown-up moment, with the Fall 2011 runways filled with loads of clothes perfect for our bodies, from long-sleeve glam gowns (Diane von Furstenberg's were the best) to duster-length vests (long live Bea Arthur as Maude!) to longer skirt lengths. Even the colors (pink this spring, cobalt next fall) seem in tune with a mature clientele.

Now if designers can just figure out a way to zap my hot flashes, I'd be totally happy.
