Why when it's cold outside is everyone is thinking about bras?. The upcoming Valentine's Day? Doubt it. Maybe you think more about underthings and feeling pretty when you're all bundled up.
At any rate, I just learned about designer Marlies Dekkers and her Dressed / Undressed collection. I have to say, I think the bras are gorgeous. But especially because you can show a peep or two even over 40 and look sexy, not trashy (depending on the style you choose of course).
I know I said no sheer shirts a while back but, ah well, rules …. meant to be broken. Anyway, a peek is different. The other night I was at a book reading event and one woman had a raw silk fitted suit on with her bra, similar to the black one on the left, just visible beyond her lapels when she turned certain ways.
It was sexy and tasteful. Another reason it worked: like Marlies Dekkers designs, cleavage (and chest wrinkles*) were cleverly concealed in a stylish way. Which is obviously why this is called the Dressed / Undressed collection.
Donate Your Old Bra for Good
A smart way to "recycle" your old bra? Donate a gently used and/or ill-fitting bra (they'll take new, too) to any Soma boutique from January 10 to February 14, 2013 and Soma will donate $0.25 (up to $5,000) to NNEDV — the National Network to End Domestic Violence.
Did you know?
Bras are among the most needed but least donated items to women's shelters. Women have donated nearly 400,000 bras to the Giving is Beautiful Bra Donation Event so far.
When they mean gently used, they mean wearable. So an ancient bra like this 600-year-old one… well, use your judgment. Although I love the idea that a bra will tell all kinds of tales about us centuries later.
Use your bra to support other women. And while you're at it, support yourself in style.
