"People complimented me!" exclaims Margo Hasen, about letting her hair go gray.
This revelation came about when I introduced her (virtually of course) to Diana Jewell, author of Going Gray Looking Great, who is busy preparing the 2nd Annual Silver Sisters Event in Las Vegas September 30 to October 2.
The very first bullet point in author Barbara Grufferman's recent article, The Ten Commandments of Turning 50, is Don't Stop Networking. She's right.
Diana and Margo were thrilled to make the connection, but it turns out Margo was already a fan. She had a copy of a previous book by Diana Jewell, Making up by Rex. "Wonderful book!" she told Diana, adding,
I love goinggraylookinggreat.com! Great information. I purchased a book; looking forward to receiving it!"
She then proceed to relate her own experience of letting her hair go gray, as Diana says so many women do. Because it's a pivotal decision — Diana says women often need and seek support with the decision itself and then the process.
Personally, thinning hair was a SURPRISE! In going through the discovery process of what to do about it, I cut my hair short and let it go natural. Another surprise: A wide variety of people complimented me!
I had spent years dying my hair a "natural looking" ashy blond. When I turned gray, I realized that gray brought "light" to my face. That ashy blond had been boring. I find that I am 'noticed'. People remember me!"
Diana couldn't agree more, she said: "You've discovered some of the best benefits of being gray:
- compliments
- light to your face
- being unique, and
- well, I don't have to tell you #4 because you know that suiting your silvers to your wardrobe is a must."
As a professional style and wardrobe consultant — Margo Hasen, The Style Strategist — the look works well for her too since she spends her days giving midlife women image makeovers.
"I am my client's cheerleader, navigating them forward to new avenues of style and appearance. I help them:
- Take command of their personal style, wardrobes and closets.
- Create strategic styling solutions for their wardrobe.
- Find outstanding items that define their signature style.
My goal is to enable them to easily select an outfit from their closet each morning, get dressed in 10 minutes and look and feel fabulous."
She also consults with The Doncaster Collection — a great clothing line for real-life midlife women.
No doubt this will be a powerful connection — can't wait to see what happens!
