Looking for an easy hairstyle for the holidays that's festive, but also fast and easy?
Buns are back and bigger than ever, but even they can be a pain — meaning getting your hair into a nice, neat bun isn't always as easy as it would seem.
Enter The Wrap Up by SarahPotempa (at right). I recently discovered it in a long lost bag I had and was amazed at how such a simple thing can make a big difference.
How to make a hair bun with The Wrap Up
It's a little spongy, with a strong inner wire — you simply slip your hair through the sort of slot, roll it up and fold in the sides and voila! Instant perfect bun.
Actually you pull the rolled up hair around the sides for the perfect bun, which I only discovered after watching the videos on their website, even though it illustrates that on the little instruction sheet that The Wrap Up comes in. Oops.
I like my hair out of my face when I'm working and always use a claw clip to put it up, but this gives the workaday look a lot more polish. And of course, a bun hairstyle is the ideal elegant updo, too, as Salma Hayak illustrates here (although she's not wearing one). Add a little hair bling — rhinestone clips, bejewleed bobby pins or combs and the updo gets pushed up a notch to holiday dazzle.
The Wrap Up suggests starting with a ponytail in an elastic, but I even skip that part and it works just fine — in either a modern topknot or a more classic low bun.
Now it also comes in Blonde and Brunette versions so you can more closely match your hair ($12).
A big plus: When you take it down, your hair falls into beautiful flowing waves. Nice and smooth and tamed, and shiny. Especially if you've put it up damp and let it dry in the updo. Another great holiday hair look – or any day. This will definitely be a part of my New Year hairstyle repertoire.
