Happy Valentine's Day! Have you danced yet today? Or hugged?
You may be one of the lucky many who lavish or are lavished with flowers and candy.
Whether or not you are, there is still more to do this Valentine's Day.
Like get up and dance! Join One Billion Rising – a global dance event to raise awareness and end Violence Against Women (Listen to Eve Ensler on how it started and why). What a fantastic way to handle and a touchy subject, don't you think?
You can't fight violence with violence, but you can diffuse it with love and joy. It's a creative, feminine way to redirect energy.
Plus dancing is back and bigger than ever, and gosh darn it, it's good for you!
So put on your dancin' shoes, swirly skirt, yoga pans—whatever you wear that makes you move and find a place near you where people are dancing; in the streets, or shops, or gyms – they will be everywhere today! I'm going here, but you can do it wherever you are and whoever you are, male or female (come on guys, support the dance – women will love you for it.).
And when you're done, share a hug – with anyone. It is Random Acts of Kindness week and we all know now those hugs are essential to your health. As Pam Sherman, The Suburban Outlaw said in a recent column,
A few years ago I learned there is a proper way to actually hug — it's called a heart hug. A heart hug requires that you hug heart to heart, and you don't pat each other on the back like you are burping a baby. Just hug, and then look at the person you are hugging before you release. Try it. It feels different."
So do it. Dance. And heart hug. Share the love on Valentine's Day – then work on making it every day.
What's love got to do with style—everything:
