Helen Mirren Rocks an Edgy Look

Forget what you think you know about how a sixty year old is supposed to dress. Because Helen Mirren is about to change your mind.

Although we've seen her insanely great body in a red bikini, we mostly see Helen Mirren in quiet little cardigans and dresses on the red carpet. Although she could rock a miniskirt, she never goes the tarty route on the red carpet.

So that's why it's so fun to see classy Helen Mirren go edgy in this leopard print Dolce & Gabbana gown.

She punked it up with slicked-back hair, a leather jacket (a nice departure from her usual boring cardigans) and a safety pin necklace (that reportedly was a gift from Arthur co-star Russell Brand.)

NY Magazine posted a photo of Helen Mirren and this snarky comment: "Is there such a thing as too edgy for Helen?"

Now, we've seen lots of photos of similar-aged celebrities doing a rock-n-roll look, but it always looks kind of sad (like a frozen-face Cher still trying to rock fishnets and miniskirts.)

The thing that sets Helen Mirren apart from the rest is that she does edgy in a completely age-appropriate way.

She chose a cool print (animal) in a long dress (in a skin-tight mini it would've been completely wrong) and a perfect-for-a-60-year-old leather jacket (an ageless piece) and made it look new and now.

 And the most beautiful part of Helen Mirren's look is how comfortable she is with her gray hair and wrinkles.
