One of the "joys" of aging: cold feet. Like, literally, feet that are always cold.
So in the winter, I try all sorts of tricks to keep my feet warm: fuzzy socks, fuzzy boots, fuzzy socks worn with fuzzy boots. You get the picture.
In addition to my cold feet problem I also have a serious love affair with boots of all types — cowboy boots, tall boots, ankle boots, etc. — so it's a natural that winter boots are one of my go-to styles when my toes are frozen.
My favorite boots for around the house are an Ugg-type boot — short, black boots that are snuggly enough to wear without socks. I also have a pair of shearling/suede lace-up tall lace up boots that are super warm.
The question is how to mix these cozy/fuzzy/weatherproof winter boots into our wardrobes after 40. Because as much as I love my Ugg-type boots at home, I feel like I'm wearing my slippers if I go out in public with them.
One way I've found to pull off winter boots without looking like Sasquatch is to wear a monochromatic outfit like Sigourney Weaver has done with her fuzzy boots at Sundance. She wore all black — simple, streamlined pieces — and finished with a spectacular pair of furry boots.
Another way to wear winter boots and combat cold feet is to go with boots that are only partially furry or are trimmed in shearling, like Cheryl Hines has done on the red carpet. These shorter boots are perfect for wearing with slim jeans or leggings tucked in.
An inexpensive way to winterize most boots is by adding furry leg warmers/boot toppers that you slip on over the tops of the boots.
