Source: Kevin Winter/NBCUniversal/Getty-2; Larry Marano/Getty Janet Jackson debuted her new feminine/edgy hairstyle on Jay Leno -- a great look that would work on a lot of over-40 faces. Contrasted here with her curly top at a concert last month. Which suits her better at 45?
I wasn't really paying attention to what Janet Jackson was saying during her visit with Jay Leno the other night – although apparently, according to this very site, it was just a prolonged infomercial.
What actually caught my attention was the new Janet Jackson hair style. The 45-year-old's new 'do had everything: It's long, yet it's short. It has height and volume, yet it's sleek and contained. It's business-like and professional, yet it's sexy. Feminine, yet edgy.
Bonus: The height is a great way to hide grey roots coming in. It also opens up her face — as opposed to making it smaller, like the tousled curls (lower right), making her look fresher, brighter, bolder.
I can see Janet Jackson's hair style working on a handful of over-40s and 50s. It probably wouldn't work on rectangular-shaped faces like a Gayle King or Tracy Pollan.
But the Janet Jackson hair style would look great on oval, round and heart-shaped faces such as Julia Louis-Dreyfus or Octavia Spencer, or Ann Curry. Jane Lynch is almost there. Wouldn't you like to see Susan Sarandon updated with this hairstyle?
Can you see yourself in a cutting-edge cut like this?
