Julianne Moore always has great hair. But the 50-year-old recently kicked it up a notch by debuting a new cut, featuring bangs, layers and a brighter red hair color.

The new hairstyle brings all the focus to her eyes, while giving her a youthful, updated look.

After 40, bangs can work as an easy disguise for forehead wrinkles. Bangs — especially longer bangs — give women a sexy, mysterious look; these longer bangs like Julianne Moore is wearing end below the eyebrow.

Not every star who has made the switch to bangs after 40 has fared as well as Julianne Moore. Remember Sandra Bullock's recent attempt to wear long bangs?

But it's not just her bangs that make this look sizzle. Julianne Moore's gorgeous, rich haircolor also make this long hair look work.

Done right, red hair can work over 40, according to New York colorist Rick Wellman of the Patrick Melville Salon.

"Accent with soft and copper golden reds," Rick says. "Women over 40, be careful to avoid wine colored dark reds."
