Miss Kim Coles is infectious. If you're ever having a day when you're feeling a little down you need a dose of Coles.
Feel a little draggy?
"Keep rocking 50, mama!" Coles cries into the phone from the set of her new OWN series, "Are You Normal America?"
Her series allow us to figure out if we're like the next door neighbors in each and every way. I really want to know how Coles feels about turning 50. The popular star of "Living Single" and "In Living Color" doesn't mince words.
"I tell you what is keeping me young. I swear, it works! I'm getting hit on by men in their 30s. I got a 36 year old who is calling me and saying, 'I want to take you out.'"
"I still got it," she says with a laugh. "I still got it!"
KIM COLES BEAUTY SECRETS
Coles says that her beauty routine at home is simple. On her new series on OWN, it's a bit more professional. "It's called a makeup and hair department," she says. "That's great when you have the pros work on you."
She says her summer routine on her own isn't hard to follow.
"I'm really big on getting facials because I feel it's crucial to keep my skin really, really clean," she says. "I book them all the time. You sweat more in summer. You have more breakouts.
"I even do facials on myself during the week," she says. "So, my number one tip is to exfoliate and get facials, plus drink lots of water, which is key. It sounds silly, but water is the beginning of everything."
Coles is also a fan of using sunscreen with no excuses.
"Ladies, we have to do sunscreen every single day no matter what. I put on a 15 or 30 especially when I'm in Los Angeles where it's always so sunny all the time," she says.
COLES ON FASHION AND MAKEUP
Coles says that summer means she's also going to revamp her makeup routine.
"I'm playing with the new eye colors," she says. "I want to wear bright colors. I saw a show the other day where someone was wearing orange eye shadow. That sounds a little alien, but it was gorgeous.
"I'm rocking the brights that are appropriate and I love a cool eyeliner and sparkly lip gloss" she says. "I think the key is to look good, but don't look like a teen."
She's also up on the clothing trends.
"People say 50 is the new 40 and I believe it. We can still rock our cuteness at this age."
HER NEW SERIES "ARE YOU NORMAL AMERICA"
Coles says that Oprah helped cast her as the host of her new series "Are You Normal America."
"We ask questions to see how you rate with other people. It's a great way to connect with each other. Just when you're feeling a bit odd, you find out that everyone else goes skinny dipping once in awhile," she says.
Coles knows that in her business the host of this show could be some 20 year old.
"It's sad that when women get older in this business they get put out to pasture. But I'm finding it's changing for the better," she says.
"There is no reason for women to ever feel old when they've accomplished so much and there is so much to come," she says.
