Happy Birthday, Joni Mitchell!
Yes, she exemplifies long hair styles for women, but ooooh, so much more.
As my friend Hugh (who's busy making a sailing experince for returning war vets!) put it, "It's Joni's world, we're just livin' in it."
She epitomizes a certain place and time — and timelessness — in so may people's lives. Her music stirs the soul and inspires the heart. And she's still got "it" at 69 today!
But yes, she did sing about 'Bows and flows of angel hair...' and at 69, she's still got that too — long straight hair, which she wears down and flowing or piled atop her head or in simple updos for long hair as at right at a Pre-GRAMMY Gala honoring Richard Branson this past February.
Joni Mitchell is a very stylish woman and always has been — she certainly qualifies as an icon of the music world — "Help Me" & "Free Man in Paris" scratch the surface — but I'd say she's a midlife style icon too. I especially love this quote:
I learned a woman is never an old woman."
She's a multi disciplined artist as well, with painting and poetry a big part of her creative output. And she's influenced legions of musical artists. She's been compared to Taylor Swift, or rather, Taylor Swift has been compared to her ... but really, and nothing against Ms. Swift, aside from some facial similarities, I don't really see it , do you?
For her birthday, a little "Both Sides Now", which seems appropriate in so many ways. I' sure you've looked at life that way by today. But enough from me — I want to hear your reflections on Joni Mitchell.
