Maybe I'm just in an "Absolutely Fabulous" state of mind (the British series will air three new episodes this year), but I'm really liking Joanna Lumley's long layered cut.
It's not trendy or hip. But Joanna Lumley's shoulder-length cut — with bangs and long layers — happens to look terrific on a variety of women. Like Diane Keaton who wears a variation of this style..
The beauty of longer layers with a mature face is that they add softness and volume, by adding some width at the cheek area. This is a good thing because as we age, some of use lose our cheek definition; cutting long layers into hair that end around that area can add the illusion of width to complement thinning facial features.
Flippy or feathered ends — like Joanna Lumley has — can also add a youthful touch to so many cuts (see what it does for Judith Light and Jane Fonda.)
And then there are the bangs. If you haven't tried bangs, you are missing out on one of the easiest (and needle-free) ways to hide an aging forehead. Bangs like Joanna Lumley's are worn extra-long and whispy to cover up part of the forehead and bring focus to the eyes.
