Look of the day: Dana Delany in Purple Sheath Dress

Dana Delany is never one to shy away from standing out on the red carpet which is one thing I love about her. The actress, 55, showed up to a recent press event in a dress silhouette she wears frequently: the sheath dress.

This purple sheath dress is a knockout on Dana Delany. The cut, the color, even the ruching are just perfect to accentuate an hourglass figure.

One thing I truly admire about Dana Delany (OK, besides her enviable hair) is that she still experiments. She's been seen recently on the red carpet in a teal leather dress (leather dresses are back in a big way.) She's also been seen in a lace dress (another big trend.) She wears all the hottest designers like Prada and L'Wren Scott. She's not even afraid of a colossal fashion fail (like when she recently wore a print Prada dress with an orange striped fur. )

Sometimes we women of a certain age can start to feel invisible, so it's refreshing to see an actress in our age group who wears lots of color (purple and red look great on her) and attention-grabbing silhouettes (nothing inappropriate, just body-hugging sheath dresses). The funny thing is that even as popular an actress as Dana Delany is, there's not much available online to detail her fashion choices (as opposed to, say, Kim Kardashian where every fingernail polish change seems to be detailed.)

One reason that the fashion choices of women over 50 aren't chronicled with the same zeal as 20-somethings may be how we start to view celebrity as we age. In the case of a natural beauty like Dana Delany, I am somewhat in awe. She reportedly had a bad experience with Botox 8 years ago and has sworn it (and plastic surgery) off ever since. If that's Dana Delany's all-natural smooth forehead I'm looking at in the close-up, I am truly impressed.
