Wear more than one of an accessory for a trendy chic look.

Old? Wearing just one strand of pearls or just one bangle bracelet.

New? Layering on multiple strands of pearls and multiple bracelets.

The key to carrying off multiples is to wear items that are similar.

At the SAG Awards, Mary Tyler Moore wore multiple strands of pearls in varying lengths. Each strand of pearls had a different finish — like gold, coins and knots — but the overall effect was very cohesive.

Also at the SAG Awards, Mary Steenburgen piled on an armful of bangle bracelets, all in the same antiqued silver color. The result was a bold look, that was modern and interesting with many different sizes and shapes (but still, all one color way.)

You may see youngsters pull off multiple bracelets in different materials, like mixing string bracelets with metal, wood with leather, etc. Although you can have some leeway with your personal mix, it's usually chicer to keep the idea in one theme.

For example, you could do all wood bangles, and layer different sizes — and even colors — of wood bangles. Or you could wear pearls that were all the same size,  but different lengths and colors.

The idea is to have something to tie the entire look together without making it look too funky and fragmented.
