"The truth is I don't care about aging," says one of the great screen beauties.
"You look in the mirror and it doesn't match the face in your head," says actress Mimi Rogers. "You still have that younger face in your brain. But then I look in the mirror and say, 'I'm doing OK. I'll celebrate who I am today.
"It doesn't hurt to put a cream on who I am," she laughs.
At age 55, Mimi Rogers looks as gorgeous today as any of the yesterdays.
You know her from films including "Someone to Watch Over Me" and "Austin Powers: International Man of Mystery." She also did a stint on the mega-popular series "The X-Files."
Oh, and she was Mrs. Tom Cruise for a period of time, too.
On a warm summer morning, Mimi and I are talking about how far we'll cruise down the anti-aging lane.
Me: "I'm too much of a wimp to do anything involving cutting. I don't even like to go to the dentist."
Mimi: "Again, I'll put on cream! What else can I do? Personally, I don't like the look women have when they inject fillers into their faces. Ultimately, I don't think it makes you look younger. I just think it makes you look strange.
"I'm in my 50s," Mimi says. "This is what my face looks like. It looks like I've lived."
MIMI ROGER'S HEALTHY SECRETS
"I think I've always been a generally healthy person," Mimi says. "I've also always been on the athletic side. Working out is just a natural part of my life."
Mimi combines cardio, flexibility and fun workouts.
"I'll run, do a yoga class and then take a dance class," she says.
Her best workout can't be found in any gym. "I have two children," she says. "One is ten and one is 16. That really keeps you young and active."
She says her eating plan is healthy. "I work on staying hydrated and take supplements," she says. "It's important to educate yourself and learn about nutrition."
"One thing that saves your health is I've never been much of a drinker," she says.
Mimi says "it's all about moderation."
"I love my cup of coffee in the morning," she says. "I have one when I wake up and that's it."
"Honestly, I don't need more than that one cup," she says. "But I would seriously miss the coffee if I completely denied myself."
"If I want to have a little bit of pizza or a small ice cream, I'll do it," she says. "But it's not how I eat on a daily basis.
"If you allow yourself a little bit of whatever then it doesn't become a problem," she says.
Portion control is also key. "I find that many people just eat too much – sometimes three times as much of whatever it is. If you're in a restaurant eat a third of a big portion."
MIMI'S GORGEOUS SKIN
Mimi says that she "inherited well. I have to give credit where credit is due."
But she still works on it.
"I drink gallons of water. I'm also really religious about sun block and I've been using it for over 25 years," she says. "I have sensitive skin that burns easily. I know it sounds simple to say sunblock, but most women still skip it."
Mimi isn't one to break the bank on skin care.
"I've had a lot of success with Avon's Anew products," she says. "Avon does an amazing amount of research and their products for aging skin are remarkable effective.
"I won't go out and spend $150 on a tube of cream. I think it's the same as the cheaper stuff. Who needs to pay for a name and their marketing?" she poses.
A FINAL WORD ON AGING
Mimi says that the one thing that bothers her about age is a few aches and pains.
"Frankly, what makes me mad is that my body just can't respond to how active I want to be," she says.
"I'll have a really active day and then at night my left ankle is achy," she says. "I'll think, 'What's that all about?'
"You have to deal with menopause sometimes and I'll say, 'Come on! I don't need this!'
"Honestly, those are the only times I'm even aware of aging," she says. "I'm still going to climb that wall at the gym or do that yoga pose. If my body hurts a little bit later….it's worth it."
