Morgan Freeman has experienced turning 70. Please don't ask him how he feels about it.
"I keep hearing, 'What does it feel like to be over 70?' My answer is, 'What is it supposed to feel like when you turn a certain age. Is there a manual?'" jokes the screen icon known for movies including "The Shawshank Redemption."
The star of the new hit film "Dolphin Tale" laughs during a phone interview and says that he has no aches, no pains and no problems when he scrapes down his beloved boat on the weekends.
"I'm just going to ease into this next decade on the earth, but that doesn't mean sitting it out," says Freeman who is now 74. "You have to get out there."
Freeman is nothing if not active – and he says that's the key to good health and a healthy mindset.
Here are Morgan Freeman's Tips for a Stylish Life:
DON'T RETIRE FROM LIFE
"I'm at the age where I could collect Social Security, but Social Security isn't what I want out of life," Morgan says. "I think the point at this age is you don't retire from life.
"That's why I have to act. I don't have a passion for anything else in life. Never let your passion go away," says Freeman.
SURROUND YOURSELF WITH YOUR A-TEAM
Morgan says that surrounding yourself with friends is also key.
"I remember when I turned 65," he says. "It was amazing because everyone I cared about in this world was there and it was a real kick to see all the people I really desire to see in life. That support is amazing."
DON'T DWELL ON THE PAST
"If I know one thing in life it's that you don't just beat what has worked in the past. You try something new," he says. "This is a way to keep your mind active. You should explore your world, try a new hobby, and get out there. You can't just repeat everything you've done in the past."
ADD A LITTLE STYLE TO YOUR LIFE
Morgan always looks sleek and handsome on the red carpet. His style secrets? "You can't go wrong with a good suit that really fits you. Get a good tailor. You can't go wrong with asking for help in this area," he says.
On most days, Freeman can be found in a comfy pair of jeans, a white shirt and a black leather jacket when it's cold. "It's about comfort, too," he says.
REALIZE THE LIFE HAS EBBS AND FLOWS
"I understand that as an actor, it's not all great moments in life or in work," he says. "That's just life. You have period of feasting. And then it all peters out," he says.
"As an actor, you're really always waiting for something good to do. I think it helps in any walk of life to create your own opportunities. Look for what will make you happy and if it's not out there then try to create it. Create moments to get that flow back."
DON'T TAKE LIFE FOR GRANTED
"I don't take anything for granted," Morgan says. "I'm not the guy who would ever look in the mirror and say, 'I got it made now.' That's one of the biggest crimes to commit in life.
"It's when you think that you've got it made that something happens that reminds you that life is really a struggle."
KNOW THAT LIFE BEGINS AT MIDLIFE
"I haven't even scratched the surface," Morgan says. "There is great stuff that hasn't been touched by me. For instance, I'm a big fan of westerns and I haven't done my ultimate one. There are many stories to tell."
"There is so much life to live."
