When it comes to getting older just say: the Elle with it.

Elle Macpherson, super-model, icon, actress and businesswoman, is calling from her Miami home to give fashion tips for us ladies over 45.

"Hello Gorgeous," Elle begins.

To quote Robert DeNiro: "Is she talkin' to me?" (If only she could see me in my workout clothes...post Pilates!)

The point is anyone could be Elle beautiful with just a few of her model-iest tips. "First of all, you don't ever want to be boring in life and this includes over 40," says the 47-year-old who has always been dubbed The Body.

Her looking good advice has nothing to do with thighs the size of number two pencils.

"I think a big smile is about as good as it gets. That's the first thing you put on in the morning. No matter what you wear that never changes," Elle says.

As far as fashion and beauty, she advises, "Keep it light, keep it bright, kept it real and be at peace with yourself."

WHAT TO WEAR IN A PINCH

Elle hosts and acts as a mentor on the new NBC reality show "Fashion Star." The upcoming series is designed to discover America's next popular brand with a twist. Viewers at home can buy the winning designs each week including  new suits, dresses, lingerie, denim, bathing suits, shoes and accessories.

It begs the question: What does Elle wear in her regular life as a working mother of two sons?

What's her anytime, gotta run out of the house, "go to" outfit?

"I have the biggest collection of jeans you could probably ask for in this lifetime," she says. "I love skinny jeans and boyfriends jeans as a go-to outfit. Just put on jeans with great heels or your favorite pair of boots or ballet shoes.

"I'm a jeans girl as opposed to a dress girl. Give me jeans instead of some tailored suit," she says. "Then I have my collection of easy tops including many T-shirts and white blouses.

"A leather jacket is always a great way to complete the outfit," she says.

Feeling bold? Feeling sexy?

"If you really want to go for it then try leather jeans," she advises. "There is no age limit to them. Just put them on with confidence."

ELLE ON AGING: BRING ON THE GLASSES!

As she inches towards 50, Elle admits, "Most of the time, I don't feel my age."

Getting prescription glasses was one concession to age and it did stop her squinting. But there were side effects.

"There are days when I put my glasses on and get a close up or glimpse of what's really going on and I don't mind seeing a few fine lines. I don't even mind the glasses because it's nice to be able to see."

"But it's good not to wear the glasses!" she whoops. "Everything always looks okay from a distance."

She has a special fashionista rule as she gets older. "As I've matured, I've understood what works for me. I'm sure you know what works for you. Feel good about what you know.

"I'm not so much into experimenting anymore," she says. "And I don't define myself anymore through my clothes, hair and makeup."

Her best tip: "I keep it simple."

"In my day-to-day life, I don't stress about it," she says. "But I keep a sense of humor when it comes to trying something new."

LIFE, ETC.

"My life isn't just red carpet. It's about picking up my kids from school. I'm just another busy working mother of two boys," says Macpherson who is divorced from Gilles Bensimon and mom to Arpad Flynn and Aurelius Cy.

She doesn't dream of them entering show biz.

"I don't have dreams for them. They have their own dreams," she says. "I just nurture them to find the types of things they're interested in. My sons are 13 and 9. One wants to be a pilot. One wants to be an actor.

"They're both incredibly good at math," she says. "I just try to encourage their individual talents."

When did she figure it all out? When did she find the time?  Elle laughs.

"I've found that wisdom is the best accessory these days and that comes with age," she says.

She doesn't obsess with the changes she sees in the mirror.

"I don't have time to fret about the exteriors," she says. "I'm much more interested in what's going on inside."
