Something funny happened to Nia Vardalos on the way to getting just a teeny bit older.

She staged a rebellion.

"Aging?" Nia asks. "I fight it kicking and screaming. I sleep in a vat of Le Mer cream. The good thing is I'm remarkably immature!"

The good thing is she's remarkable. Period.

Along with some guy named Tom Hanks, she wrote and has a role opposite Hanks and Miss Julia Roberts in the new film "Larry Crowne" which opens tomorrow. It's about a middle aged man who loses his job and reinvents his life.

Nia's also one of nicest people you will ever meet.

As for being immature, she says, "Even my daughter gives me the eye rolls like, 'Come on, Mom. Take off that clown hat.' I'm like, 'Honey, it's funny!'"

THE LESS STEPS THE BETTER

"I look for things I can do that's not nipping and tucking," Nia says. "I'm mostly looking for ways to feel healthy and be healthy."

"All of us are aging," Nia says. "And we want something that's easy. You know when you walk through the department stores, someone rushes up to you and says, 'Do you want to try a six-step process to help your skin?' I'm like, 'No, no, no! Too many steps!'"

How does she feel about professional nips and tucks?

"I love the plastic surgery rumors! Sometimes, if you're caught at the wrong angle then you look different. Then the headlines come out that I've had plastic surgery. I love it. It's flattering. It's great," she says.

She isn't against it either. "I would never judge anyone for doing it. I've grown up with body issues. It's just not for me. My mom would absolutely be so mad at me."

As for her gorgeous hair, she says there aren't any special tricks.

"I use whatever shampoo is available at the hotel. I really do," she says.

"For my skin, I use Le Mer cream," she says. "Of course, it's more expensive than a Prius."

"I basically want to wash my face, put on some moisturizer and get to bed," she says. "There is just no time for anything complicated."

FEELING FRESH

"That's why I did the PerioBalance challenge. It removes plaque from your teeth without some chemical agent, which is so interesting to me," Nia says.

Nia is touting a new product called GUM PerioBalance, a daily dental probiotic in a mint-flavored lozenge. It's one of the first clinically shown probiotics specifically created for oral health. It helps reduce plaque and promotes healthy teeth and gums while fighting bad breath.

"I did it for three weeks and when I saw my dentist he asked if I was cheating on him," she says.

"It's so easy. You brush and floss. Then you pop out a mint and walk away. You suck on the mint while making your kids lunch and plaque," she says. "Try it and then tweet me a picture!"

GROWING UP

Nia says the key to getting older is not to give up on yourself.

"When you see someone at the mall and they're in their slippers, you think, 'Oh honey, when did you give up?'"

"I get it now," says Vardalos who has a young daughter. "When you're a mom, it's hard to find time to take a shower.

"It's just about finding ways to take care of yourself," he says. "Now, I just get up a little bit earlier. I just have to workout. I do try to make it interesting. I take dance classes and go for hikes. I do Pilates.

"I try to do something different everyday," he says.

"I'm not one of those people who works out and goes, 'Whooooeeeee, I love it.' I'm the one who looks in the mirror and finds the other person who is looking in the mirror like she hates it as much as I do.

"Together, we do the silent scream!"
