Hairstylist Angelo David explains how to get Monica Potter of Parenthood's loose updo.

January and February are all about the red carpet — a slew of awards shows and then... Fashion Week!

If you're in the winter doldrums, letting just a little of the red carpet glamor "rub off on you is a quick and easy way to lift you out of the gray gloom.

For example, a cute loose updo — courtesy inspiration from Monica Potter, 41, of NBC's Parenthood.

In fact, now that the initial pressure of New Year's resolutions has worn off, you can start to implement some changes that you want to make for this year. That's what I'm doing... having a delayed response to resolutions. It's basically the same concept as a diet versus changing your eating habits, one food at a time.

So, one fresh idea to incorporate is doing something different with your hair, one day a week. For the super resistant, make it one day a month.

We turned to Angelo David of the eponymous Angelo David Salon in Manhattan for some simple instruction on this relaxed hairstyle.

A loose updo is the best way to give you that red carpet glamour, without taking attention away from your face.... so opting for an updo is the perfect styling choice."

To create the look:

  • Add texture to hair by creating little curls with a small curling iron then breaking them using your fingers.
  • Grab sections of hair, create tiny knots and twists then slowly finger comb to produce more volume.
  • Bring all sections to the back and secure the look properly with a few pins
  • Spritz a little hairspray to keep the look in place, but not so much that it's stiff and "done" looking.

More easy resolutions in the days to come. Happy fresh outlook!
