Cuba Gooding Jr. in "Jerry Maguire" called her "My Pisces Queen."
Regina King played his spitfire wife Marcee Tidwell in that film, but is equally known for her gritty performance these days on the TNT series "Southland" where she plays Detective Lydia Adams.
She's street tough – and insists that age isn't slowing her down…even a little bit.
"Aging doesn't bug me," says the LA native who does this interview from her home a few days before Christmas. "I do look in the mirror and it makes me feel like I have to move fast. If my 40s came this quickly then 80 will be here before I know it.
"That trips me out!" she says.
"The plus side of aging is I truly feel so much wiser," she admits. "There were a lot of really stupid things I did when I was younger. I'm so far beyond that now.
"Things that used to get me upset…now, I'm like, 'Whatever," she says. "The little secret they don't tell you about aging is that the wisdom involved makes it that you'd never want to be in your 20s or 30s again."
"I'll take a fine line for a helping of wisdom," she adds.
STAYING FIT FOR "SOUTHLAND"
Running around doing his holiday shopping isn't Regina's only cardio. She laughs when I tell her I have so much more shopping to do.
Regina, who starred in the holiday classic "This Christmas," says, "Try this trick. If you don't have anything at the last minute, you can always play the 'Christmas is too commercial card.' Do that Charlie Brown thing and just get the meaningful Christmas card and write that the holidays are about family and being together!"
Regina is running around shopping, which is fine because she is a runner.
"I'm in a cop show, so I do workout. But it's great because I've pretty much worked out most of my life. I ran track in high school," she says.
"I think everyone on our show was an athlete in high school," she says.
She says age has produced some changes in her body.
"As I get older, my face gets leaner. Now with the leaner face, people really notice my body more," she says.
"I've always had muscular arms. About ten years ago, they were just too big," she says. "I had to stop working out my upper body. I just build muscles so quickly thanks to my Dad who passed down those great arms to all of us."
REGINA KING BEAUTY SECRETS
The gorgeous Regina says that she swears by two very simple beauty secrets that are also good health secrets.
"I'm very old school about beauty," she says, "So, I'll share with you my top two beauty tips.
"The first is a must, must, must," she says. "You must wash your face every morning and every night. Believe it or not, a lot of people don't do that every single day, especially at night. They're tired and flop into bed.
"Remember that your skin is your biggest organ on your body," she says. "You have to keep it clean."
She says that you can also give yourself a mid-day skin pick-me-up.
"Around noon, take some toner and wipe it all over your face. You'll see how much dirt has been collected on your face in just a few hours," she says.
As for her second tip, it's simple and inexpensive.
"You have to floss, which is another thing that most people don't do," she says. "It's huge!
"People that floss tend to get sick less. They live longer," she marvels. "It makes sense that the junk that you're eating gets up in your teeth and gums and infection can even cause heart disease.
"Those are two simple things that I swear by," she says.
