Steve Carell and his gorgeous wife Nancy go out on the town

He is the last person you would call a fashionista. So why is Steve Carell getting the beauty makeover of summer?

The guy who no longer hangs out at "The Office" plays a husband who is dumped in the new film "Crazy, Stupid, Love."

Single guy. Bad clothes.

Hello, male makeover!

"I go to a single's bar where a younger guy played by Ryan Gosling takes me under his wing and tells me that I look like one big schlump," Carell says.

Specifically, Steve Carell undergoes what Julia Roberts did in "Pretty Woman" or Melanie Griffith in "Working Girl." He gets the head-to-toe revamp that can serve as a style lesson to all men.

Specifically:

*Most men wear their shirts and suits about a size too big. Go to a professional or tailor and find out his true measurements.

*If your guy has had the same hairstyle for years ask him to explore something new...or simply something that doesn't scream it's 1986.

*You can't wear bruised, worn Nikes with everything from shorts to business suits. Try real shoes...even if they pinch a little bit.

*Casual chic for guys equals layering. A shirt over a T, with maybe even a sweater over it. It's a little warm for summer, but fall here we come.

In real life, Steve Carell says he's a guy who needs a little fashion assist.

He doesn't come to designer labels easily.

He even has his escape plan in mind from wearing all that Armani at awards shows including the upcoming Emmys where he's nominated for "The Office."

"It's a great night. You get dressed up and go out somewhere. But on those nights, I'm usually back home on my couch by 10 p.m," he says.

His fashion stylist?

"I'm guilty of asking my wife, 'Should I wear this?" says Carell.

A NOT SO CRAZY LIFE

Steve Carell is one of the nicest guys in Hollywood who has been married forever –16 years, to Nancy Carell. They met when both were performers and writers at Chicago's famed Second City.

Now, that the 16 years is out of the bag, he knows what's next.

"Oh please, you're not going to ask me for relationship advice," implores Carell with that hangdog look he made famous on "The Office." "I just think every love affair is so different and so unique.

"You can't listen to any advice – especially not from an actor," he begs.

Steve Carell isn't just an A-list movie star. He's also Dad to Elisabeth, 10, and John 7. In his spare time, he stars in movies like "Crazy, Stupid, Love," one of the best films of 2011 and a cinematic treat that reminds you why you love romantic comedies in the first place.

In the film, Steve plays Cal, a content midlifer who is married to Julianne Moore. One night he asks her innocently at a swanky restaurant: What do you want for dessert?

She taps her stilettos on the carpeting and replies: "A divorce."

She's bored, facing her own midlifer crisis and has, incidentally, been sleeping with some guy from work.

On the way home, poor Cal is in shock. "He's so stunned, he jumped out of their moving car while processing," Steve says.

The movie suggests…not make that insists…that midlifer couples can't just rest on their laurels and take each other for granted. This includes failing to look your best for your mate.

"When did we stop being us?" Moore asks Carell in the movie.

In real life, Carell is careful not to let fame or the years turn his relationship stale.

"When it comes to Nancy and myself, there is just a lot of laughter. There is an open line of communication and we just have fun with one another.

"We never ever forget to make fun of ourselves and not to take it all too seriously," he says. "For us, that's what helps.

Wait…there is one more thing.

"Oh, and then there is the amazing lovemaking," he says.

That never goes out of style.

NOT ANOTHER DAY AT "THE OFFICE."

Sadly, Steve Carell isn't spending another day at "The Office." He left the hit NBC show last season, but is sure that the comedy will see even brighter days.

"I was always just one part of the ensemble and I know in the future the show is going to be great," Carell says. "The only hard part for me is I will miss seeing all my friends."

Now that he has more time on his hands can Carell focus on improving his personal style. Will there be daily facials? Trips to the spa? Shopping sprees?

"Please, I am the guy with the white gym shoes," he says. "I might have to learn to be a star, though."

"First, you have to disregard all other people," he jokes. "It's good to have attitude and pretense.

"No, honestly, I don't think of myself as a movie star at all and I will never have attitude or pretense."

He says he doesn't need all those Hugo Boss power suits because a great night for him is at home.

"Mostly, my wife and I like to stay in and order a pizza and watch TV," he says. "It's about having some relaxing time together.

"I like her and love her, so it's ...just everything," he says.
