I don't know about you, but I need summer beauty tips - stat.
As the temps soar to 115 degrees in Nevada today, there are two options that come to mind: A vacation to Iceland to interview Tom Cruise who incidentally is not taking...or coping with the heat.
I don't have enough United miles for Iceland, so coping is the next natural step. I went to the Hollywood beauty experts I interview for this column to ask them for the best summer beauty tips.
TREATING SUNBURNED SKIN - 3 Cures
Even though we're supposed to avoid the sun, there are those vacations, lawn chairs and cocktails. You might think you've been in the sun only a few minutes, but later feel the burn. What to do? What are the best ways for treating sunburn?
*Milk Bath. Milk has natural soothing properties, so one cup of full fat milk (yes, you need the fat here) will calm down the burn. Make sure your bath water is luke warm and not hot (which will make it feel worse).
*Cortizone-10. When it really hurts you can apply cortisone cream, which will ease the pain.
*Aloe-Based Gel. Buy a large aloe based gel for your home and keep it in the fridge for maximum burn relief. If you're on vacation buy a small aloe gel and keep it in your hotel mini-fridge.
LIPS - 1 Cure
Angelina Jolie is busy supervising the House of Pitt this summer, so we haven't seen her in the news as much. But if you're still coveting her infamous lips don't go to the derm for injections. Try a few natural ways to plump your lips and get rid of any summer-chapped lips.
*Honey. Grab a little bottle of honey and put a small dot on your lips. Now, get out a soft toothbrush or buy a child's toothbrush. Lightly brush your lips. When you're done then dip a clean washcloth into warm water and swipe it over your lips to remove any dead skin cells. The honey will moisture and healed your summer- chapped lips, plus the treatment will leave them plump and even naturally reddish.
SHINE - 2 Cures
I live in a place where makeup naturally melts off and leaves you with nothing, but facial shine. A few summer beauty tips for minimizing shine:
*Do not wear foundation. Unless you're going to an event, it's nice to skip the foundation in the summer. Instead just use a tinted moisturizer and layer it with your sunscreen. Remember that even on cloudy days you need the sunscreen.
*Try this DIY home recipe to get rid of summer oily skin and shine: In a bowl combine one cup of water with 1/2 cup witch hazel. Add the juice of half a lemon. (Do not use the lemon that comes in those green plastic fake lemons). With a cotton ball or cloth apply the mix to your face. The lemon and witch hazel have astringent properties that get rid of the shine (oil) while also keeping your pores tight. Don't forget to moisturize afterwards.
ATTITUDE - 1 Cool Cure
Julia Roberts might play the evil queen in "Mirror Mirror," a character who quests for beauty, but in real life her attitude about it is simple. "I use a lot of Lancome, and that seems to be working," she says of her best beauty tip.
What does she do to stay Julia Roberts in the heat?
"I don't have to do anything and I'll stay Julia Roberts. So, that's cool Superman," says the screen icon.
