You've heard of people who live in glass houses. Tina Fey lives in a house full of glasses.
"There are four or five pairs everywhere," The Queen of Comedy tells me.
"I can never find my glasses," Fey laments. "Sometimes I bring ones home from the set and half of them don't even have prescriptions in them because they're just props."
"I went to get an eye exam," says the author of the best seller "Bossypants." "My eye doctor even said, 'These are props, Tina, right?'
"I am aware that I look a little better in them than without them," she insists.
TiINA FEY'S BEAUTY SECRETS
The star of "30 Rock" swears that she has her "original teeth and face parts."
She doesn't have time for expensive beauty treatments since she is the Queen of Comedy.
"Yes, I'm leading the revolution! Everyday, I talk about the revolution. Then I go to my TV series and we figure out how to keep the revolution going," says Fey who arrives at the Four Seasons Hotel in Beverly Hills for our interview in black jeans, black stiletto heels and an aqua top. Softly curled black hair falls below her chin.
"No, the truth is I just think about my character and try to tell funny stories."
Here are a few funny style lessons I learned from Tina Fey:
*Keep it simple.
Fey says her beauty routine sticks to the basics. "The three secrets of great skin are moisturize, stay out of the sun and be Italian," she jokes.
*Share your makeup with others who love style.
Fey says her five-year-old daughter Alice loves to watch her mom get makeup done.
"My daughter actually likes to watch people get their makeup done. When I come home she goes, 'You got makeup? I like your makeup. Who did your eyes.' I have a very girly girl on my hands and you have to share your makeup."
*Embrace your face.
In her new book, Fey laments her lifelong beauty concerns.
"I have straight Greek eyebrows," Fey says. "They start at my hairline at my temples and left unchecked will grow straight across my face and onto yours."
*Resist bad teen beauty habits.
As a young woman, Fey washed with Ivory soap and used Prell shampoo. "Everyone knew Prell was the best because you could also use it to clean a frying pan," she jokes.
She also dried her hair with a Hot Comb – a small, vibrating hairbrush. She jokes that the family kept the Hot Comb in the dining room credenza ear the electric knife. "They were almost the same exact same machine," she says.
*Forget about anti-aging treatments.
"As you age, you want to pay someone to shoot lasers at your face. You can simulate the experience at home by having a friend hide your wallet while you sit close to a space heater. It works just as well," writes Fey. (Please, don't try this at home.)
*Got a big event. Get an up-do.
Fey has been slammed for some of her award show dresses, but her hair always looks amazing. One of her best was an updo at the Golden Globes last year where she had finger waves, too.
Her hairdresser used a curl enhancing mousse to wet hair and dried her hair using a diffuser attachment to create frizz-free curls and waves. Afterwards, you just need to curl various strands of hair with a curling iron and then don't brush out the results. Put your hair in a loose ponytail and then pin into a bun.
*Revel in your curves.
"I look like a young Sharon Osborne in the film 'Megamind,'" Fey says of her animated heroine character. (Check her out on DVD). "I like her short hair and her beautiful curves."
"She has an ample can," Fey says of her screen derriere. "I couldn't really ask for more in an animated character."
*Embrace your own beauty.
Fey says she would never trade in "the small thin-lipped mouth that makes me resemble my nephew. I wouldn't even trade the acne scar on my right cheek because of that recurring zit that spent more time with me in college than any boy ever did."
