Too Old to Wear Paisley?

Boho prints may be "in" but they are aging.

One of the trends that's hot for fall: bohemian prints, including paisley.

The problem? Paisley prints — like tweed and sensible shoes — can be aging, especially if you pair them with other conservative items like pencil skirts and a string of pearls.

Does that mean that you are too old to wear paisley? Maybe. Or maybe it's just that you're too young to wear it (since it's often associated with little old ladies...)

If you absolutely love paisley prints, there are ways to wear them that keep them more youthful looking. Try mixing a paisley top wtih jeans or a denim jacket; you can also top a paisley blouse with a leather jacket to give it an edgier look.

What you don't want to do is wear it so that it looks retro, as in a bow-top blouse or even a maxi skirt. Keep the print looking as fresh and modern as possible.

For example, Daisy Fuentes, mid-40s, wears a paisley blouse in a sheer fabric with a sexy low-cut front: very youthful and fun. Contrast that with Marisa Berenson, 60-something, who wears a dated-looked olive paisley print blazer: definitely something that deserved to stay at the back of the closet.

The easiest way to look younger in a print: choose youthful prints like dots, stripes, black and white, even florals.
