Demi Moore was sporting a short jumpsuit/romper at a Chanel BBQ in Miami, and while she undeniably has the body for it, she looks more like one of the Olsen twins than the 50-year-old mother of three.
And instead of chic-ing up the little romper, Demi added rap-star rings on every finger and chunky black glasses. The total effect? Entirely too young.
Demi's too-short outfit makes me feel slightly embarrassed for her but somewhat ambivalent at the same time. On the one hand, she's trying too hard for a woman her age to look young. But on the other, I champion her right to do so. It's so confusing being middle-aged.
The last time I felt this way was when Madonna took the stage and kept flashing everyone. As a mom, mother and fellow midlifer, I was mortified that the Material Girl had stooped to this to get attention. And – at the same time – I admired her gumption.
This thing with Demi feels slightly different. Instead of looking empowered, she looks, well, a little worse for the wear. There are all sorts of rumors swirling that she's taken up with a 20-something in the wake of her divorce with Ashton. But, being the fashionista I am, I care less about who she's dating than what she's wearing.
It's the age-old question of "Just because you can wear something, should you?"
