How often does a fashion trend come along that works for all ages, doesn't cost much and looks amazing even on fat days?

It's rare that I sit at a fashion show and crave anything, but I did just that as gloves were burning up the runways. I have plenty of utilitarian gloves – gardening gloves, warm winter gloves, equestrian gloves – but really nothing fun and fashionable (which is the big trend.)

Here are some of the easiest ways to dress up everything from jackets to little black dresses:

  • Motorcycle/Driving Gloves. These finglerless leather gloves – usually in black – give everything you wear a sporty-cool look. Although I've spotted some celebs donning a single fingerless glove, that's a look just a bit too King of Pop, for my taste.
  • Quilted Gloves. The luxe look of quilting is a fall and winter favorite. And while it's previously popped up on everything from jackets to boots, it's on gloves that I'm most likely to wear puffy quilting.
  • Hardware-Embellished Gloves. You don't need to go all Beyonce with your blinged out gloves, but a bit of studs or chain detailing will let you in on the tough-chick look with a minimum investment.
  • Print Gloves. This season animal prints are a great way to introduce some fashiony fun into your wardrobe without committing to a large print piece.
  • Novelty. Fur trims, lace and cutouts are all glove treatments that add a bit of specialness. Something as simple as a shocking bright color (electric blue, school bus yellow) can add a sense of novelty to your wardrobe.
  • Arm Warmers. These long gloves are usually fingerless for a trendy, fun look. I like that fingerless gloves let you do all sorts of things from dial the phone to easily finding your keys at the bottom of your purse.

Where to Buy New Gloves

Macys has a good assortment of name brand gloves. Shopbop.com has trendy gloves. Old Navy has inexpensive, fun fingerless and brights.
