What Are You Wearing?

These grown-up bloggers post real-women pics of their outfits.

Women our age are starting to share their real-life outfit choices online through blogging. Here's a sneak peek at one of my recent real-life outfits (Ann Taylor denim jacket, Anthropologie black dress with lace hem). See what other real women are wearing by checking out one of these blogs.

The fashion blogosphere has been built on the stilettos of cute young gals who are putting up photos of themselves on the Internet and sharing their style with the world. One of my favorites is my former intern who has the Classic Case (and who I love to get fashion inspiration from.)

This real-girl vibe is one of the things that has kept the mainstream throngs so involved in all aspects of fashion. But until recently, you'd have trouble finding women our age posting photos of the things they are wearing.

So I did a little digging and found some great examples of what-I-wore type blogs for grown-ups. Most of these have an eye to budget and thrifting (confession: My niece has me hooked on thrifting and we scored mint condition colorblock suede skirts for $5 last weekend.)

Here's what I found

  • Not Dead Yet Style  This 50-something blogger is relatively new to posting her pics online (from April 2011) but I like her motto: "We are not dead yet, so let's enjoy every sandwich and gild the lilies." Her style is perfect office-ready wear with a stylish twist: great for professional women over 50.
  • She Accessorizes Well - This self-professed "plus-size Baby Boomer" loves accessories (me, too!) and has a cute way of mixing blouses and jackets that look updated and age appropriate. She's also got an eye for thrifting and bargains, which is great for most of us.
  • Silverstyle - A blogger who likes to take on trends (like the maxi) and interpret them to make them age appropriate and budget friendly.
  • Making 50 Fabulous - - A costume designer and blogger with an eye to bargains and thrifting. She has a cute, playful style and it's fun to see what she's put together each day.

I want to switch to a clean new WordPress theme for a site, but Google has indexed 2500 pages from the old site (mainly due to a calendar module creating a new page for each day). How do I ensure all those pages remain accessible for Google, without throwing up a "Page Not Found" when someone tries to access it after installing the new WordPress theme. The current site is content managed and is running pHp..

Thank you for mentioning my blog, She Accessorizes Well. After reading so many blogs by stylish younger women I realized that there was no blog for a retired boomer. I want women to know that being older and retired does not mean you cannot still have style and dress attractively. The other bloggers you mentioned are wonderful ladies who have been very supportive in our journey to discover our over 50 style.

Thank you for the mention, Cynthia! And for the kind words. I am a fan of your posts and an avid follower of the other "mid-life" blogs you listed. We've still got lots of enthusiasm for fashion! -Patti @ Not Dead Yet Style

It's interesting how different bloggers define "professional". I think Not Yet Dead Style's style is feminine and happy, but it's definitely not the corporate style I think of as professional. I really wish there were more middle aged bloggers willing to show us their age appropriate, executive level outfits - complete with sources.

They are probably out there — more suit-type corporate dressing — will try to find them and post. Thanks for comment!
