"I think what I know now that I didn't know in my '20s is that you can create your own traditions. That's especially important during this time of the year. I've learned that it's fine if you don't have any strong family traditions that hold up for you in later years. You can just start your own.
"I'll say, 'On Christmas, we're going to hike and see a movie and play backgammon.' You can decorate your own house. You can eat your own food. The point is I've learned that you're not beholden to anyone's traditions. You can do what you want to do. That's true maturity."
