WHAT DO YOU KNOW NOW THAT YOU DIDN'T KNOW IN YOUR 20s or 30s?
ALAN ALDA, star of "M*A*S*H," the upcoming "Tower Heist" and the series "The Big C" and author:
"What I know now is what many people don't know at 20: It's so amazing to have a wonderful partner. I've been married over 50 years. Somehow I knew when I was much younger that she was The One. We both knew and then we got married.
"It's not that way for many people who get married today. Today, many people get married with the idea that if it doesn't work then we can just get a divorce. When I married, I knew it was for life.
"I don't know what it would be like to marry somebody for just a few years.
"What I know now thanks to my life is that if you stay married, there is a special pleasure of knowing someone for 50 years. It's funny. As a kid, I remember people who were married for 50 years and they were really, really old people. But now I've been married for over 50 years, but I still feel like a kid."
