The funny thing about the SAG awards is although it's about the acting and winning a statue called The Actor, it's still all about the fashion. "I'm an actor," begged off Kyra Sedgwick who didn't want to discuss her diet and exercise secrets on the red carpet.

When you look like that in a red dress, it's a bit obvious that people will ask about much more than your skills at emoting.

Who dazzled on the red carpet? It's time to hand out our own awards:

BEST USE OF COLOR

Sofia Vergara was her usual to-die-for self in a raspberry Marchesa gown that screamed, "Look at me." As usual, it was hard not to look. Sofia also wore Lorraine Schwartz jewels and carried a Thale Blanc clutch. Giving her a run for her money was Diane Lane, a nominee for the HBO movie "Cinema Verite" in a bright blue, off the shoulder gown and a low ponytail.

SUBDUED BUT NEVER NOT GIVEN HER DUE

In basic black, Angelina Jolie used a bare shoulder as her best accessory. She wore what looked like a poured on, fluid Jenny Packham halter dress and sleek, straight hair.

ON THE FASHION A LIST NOW

Viola Davis' look screamed, "Move over Meryl and Glenn. There's a new Queen Bee in town." The star of "The Help" wowed in a strapless Grecian Marchesa gown in gorgeous white with gold embellishments. Her amazing new shorter cap of hair was a mass of curls. In a word: stunning.

MOST IMPROVED

She might be the world's greatest actress, but Meryl Streep is not exactly known for her fashion sense on the red carpet. She has worn outfits that have ranged from a bit dowdy to a little strange in the past. Fans did a collective sigh of relief when "The Iron Lady" was a well-dressed lady in a Vivienne Westwood Couture grey gown complete with Fred Leighton jewels.

A LEGEND WHO NAILED IT

Glenn Close in a navy blue Zac Posen gown was a vision of loveliness on the carpet and proved to midlifers that you can wear a strapless dress, but add filmy, almost sleeves to it for an elegant look.

RED HOT

Kyra Sedgwick stars in "The Closer," but her coral Emilio Pucci dress with lots of skin showing on the sides (and a tattoo on display, too) proved that Midlifers can bring it in the sex appeal department. The long, Farrah-light hairdo just added to her hot mama appeal, as did the Fred Leighton jewels.

COUPLE OF JAW DROPPERS

You can't go wrong with George Clooney on the red carpet in black, tie, that grey-black distinguished hair and that happy look he gave his girlfriend Stacy Kiebler. She was in Marchesa. When asked what he was wearing, George replied, "A tux."

Giving this best dressed couple of love birds a run for their money was the old unmarried married couple Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie who insist that when they get home, the kids won't question them about winning awards. "They will just want to know if they can sleep in our bed," Angie joked.
