Roseanne Barr joins the annals of Women for President -- is she exhibiting female presidential style?

Roseanne Barr is looking pretty gosh darn polished these days.

Could this be the reason? The comedienne just joined the annals of history on a relatively short list of women for president. Quite the interesting birthday present to herself too — Roseanne turned 60 a few days before the election, on November 2.

And, she didn't do too badly! She didn't take any states of course, but nabbing almost 50 thousand votes is none too shabby.

Roseanne Barr announced on Jay Leno August 4th that she would be running on the Peace and Freedom Party ticket with Cindy Sheehan as her VP. Sheehan, you may recall, ran the protracted protest outside George W. Bush's Texas ranch after the heartbreaking death of her son in the Iraq War.

The candidacy of the former Domestic Goddess included styling herself as the famous WWII poster of Rosie the Riveter, Wonder Woman, Uncle Sam, and even Lily Munster.

But for the most part, her hair was styled into a neat salt-n-pepper pageboy, always with cool glasses, and slightly more polished fashion that we usually see her in — with a twist. I mean, come on, it is Roseanne Barr. BIt on the whole, pretty classy.

Her platform included environmental preservation, legalizing marijuana, and equal rights for women. With an unprecedented 20 women in the senate and even marijuana laws passed in some states, she's not too unhappy with the election outcome.

The list of names of American women to run for president begins with Victoria Woodhull back in 1871 — not surprisingly, she didn't do quite as well. In a forward to The Woman Who Ran for President, by Lois Beachy Underhill, Gloria Steinem wrote that she was the most controversial suffragette of them all. And that it has more to do with money and standing together beyond perceptions of class and rank.

Roseanne Barr is certainly no stranger to controversy, presumably she's got some cash stashed, and she's always championed the Domestic Goddesses of the world no matter where they're standing. Maybe that's what it takes these days to run as the first female president. That, and a great haircut.

No mention of Belva Lockwood? The first woman to appear on presidential ballots and the first woman attorney to argue before the Supreme Court?
