Not all of this year's latest fashions were good: in fact, I felt more strongly about the worst 2012 trends for women this year than I have in a long time.
It's not so much that the style trends of 2012 were too young (although things like skater skirts definitely were), it's that they were just plain, old ugly.
Looks like curtain prints and box pleated skirts are just too frumpy to look good on most women off the runway.
Here's a rundown of my least favorite trends.
Curtain prints - Of all the trends I hated, curtain or wallpaper prints is at the top of the list. These interior decorator-inspired prints were faves of Valentino and worn by the likes of Sarah Jessica Parker. But that still didn't make it right.
Pleated skirts - Pushing the boundaries of silhouette and structure is part of the fun of fashion. But big, boxy pleated dresses made slender gals like Cameron Diaz look chunky. And little skater skirts — popular with youngsters — tempted the likes of Kris Jenner (who should've known better.)
Tablecloth dresses - Grown women in dresses colored like Easter eggs? Egads, not a good look. Shame on designers like Valentino for pushing this awful trend.
Puritan chic - From prim little collars to full-on Pilgrim shoes, the Puritan look is one that brought out the chastest of fashions this year. Even designers like Marc Jacobs jumped on this bandwagon.
What did you think were among the worst 2012 trends for women?
