Experts agree that going lighter after 40 is often a good idea. So we turned to our go-to color expert, Rick Wellman of the Patrick Melville Salon in New York for tips on how to get the best blonde over 40.

4. Pamela Anderson's California Blonde

"I cannot imagine this Baywatch babe any other color," says Rick Wellman of Patrick Melville Salon in New York. "Pam is  the prime example of the California sun drenched blonde who turns brass into class."

Get Pamela Anderson's blonde hair: "Ask for a high lift single process complimented by a gentler and ecofriendly  highlighting technique called 'Biolights' using cotton rather than aggressive foil," Rick says.

He adds that "this blonde shade is meant to glow and move in the surf and sun...not preferred for cool skin tones." And Rick says that freckles will only compliment this shade.
