Is your makeup aging you? Do your eyebrows add years to your face? We asked New York-based makeup artist Joe J. Simon (whose clients include Julianne Moore and Jane Seymour) what he thought were some of the biggest no-nos for the face after 40 (and how to fix these beauty faux pas.)
Makeup artist Joe J. Simon -- whose celebrity credits include some of our favorite middle-aged beauties like Julianne Moore and Christie Brinkley -- said dark, matte lipstick on women over 40 can make you look older because it emphasizes dryness and feathering on the lip line.
Beauty fix: "Opt instead for a pink, peachy or rose shade with a soft satin, sheer or creamy texture," makeup pro Joe J.Simon said. "Also, a bit of gloss is nice- just be sure that it is not so much that it bleeds into fine lines around the lip area." He also added that using a lip pencil to line the mouth will also prevent lip color from bleeding into the fine lines.
