Is your makeup aging you? Do your eyebrows add years to your face? We asked New York-based makeup artist Joe J. Simon (whose clients include Julianne Moore and Jane Seymour) what he thought were some of the biggest no-nos for the face after 40 (and how to fix these beauty faux pas.)

3. Too-Heavy Foundation

Makeup artist Joe J. Simon said heavy foundation will add years to a woman's face.

Beauty fix: Joe J. Simon said it's "better to use a sheer formula that has a bit of luminosity or moisture." He added that if you need more coverage for problem areas (discoloration, acne, etc.), you should apply the foundation with a damp sponge and then spot conceal only the areas that need more coverage; set with loose translucent powder.
