At the Metropolitan Museum Costume Institute’s annual gala, often called the “party of the year” fashionwise anyway, the older crowed wowed. Many of our contemporaries were clad in shimmering metallics, while others echoed the rooms of the exhibit: American Woman: Fashioning a National Identity.

Anna Wintour

Vogue editor and co-chair of the event, Anna Wintour, walked in freshly blonded, in rippling silver Chanel Haute Couture, designed for her by Karl Lagerfeld, whom she says she obeys in all things fashion. Can't help wondering what the top of the dress looks like under the high-sheen metallic top coat; the ensemble somehow echoes outfits displayed in the Bohemian room of the exhibit.
