Super Long Grey Hair: Yasmina Rossi

Her long grey locks might make anyone want to go grey. Yasmina's been a mom, an interior/fashion designer, photographer, then a model for Yves Saint Laurent. She even said no to a lucrative global cosmetic campaign when they asked her to dye her hair!

She spotted her first white hair at the age of 12 and has loved it ever since. Yasmina is also one of the gorgeous pictures in the evocative online exhibit, Silver: A State of Mind that we spotlighted in Shades of Grey: Redefining Beauty as We Age.

I'm age 74, my gray hair is shoulder length, cut in a bob. I really don't like the very long gray hair if it's styled loose. I do however love the long gray hair look that is braided in various ways, (rather than just floating around loose.)

I am 55 yrs young and I was born with brownish red hair with a large white streak on my right temple. Now my hair is 100% white. I color it every 4 weeks or I get the dreaded "Skunk Stripe". I have learned a lot of good tips. What I'm wondering is..My hair is growing in WHITE!Not gray. Is there a difference in how you would treat it? My white streak is as soft as the rest of my hair. Anyone have any advice? Colleen

Colleen, I too have white hair. Completely white. I get more compliments now than I ever did. I am 59. People stop me on the street to tell me how beautiful it is. So go white! I just wash my hair everyday, because I use a lot of products to style it. My hair is also very soft. —-It drives me crazy that the hair industry thinks that all grey, silver, white hair is course, so they make products, shampoo included ,with too much "junk" in them that makes your hair even softer.—- I use a clarifying shampoo once a week and a volumizing shampoo on the other days. I do use a shampoo for gray, silver white hair about once a month. That's it. Really, I use about the same amount of product that I did before my hair went white. So, go for it! Good luck, Evie

Yasmina and I are both with FORD MODELS in the Classic division...we adore our silver hair...I never colored my hair but accepted the change as it came gradually. I laugh and tell people it is my "blonde" as most women bleach their hair to appear younger as they age, or, dye their hair a dark color which no longer correlates to their skin and is obviously not their real shade. I believe a woman is most beautiful when she feels confident in her own choices. Length of hair is personal. I have chin length very straight hair....I used to have long hair and most recently thought I would try it again...for me, a blunt cut that swings and has "energy" and sophistication is for me. Yasmina has glorious long tresses that are magnificent and she looks magnificent...as a former fashion editor and stylist....I love unique and I believe women should feel free to experience their own beauty...not anyone elses. Long or short or in between....beauty comes from confidence...knowing who you are and what you like...it's alluring, positive, and captivating...and most of all, you feel it and no one can deny you that strength of heart and mind. I loved this article. It was so inspiring! I haven't colored my hair since October 2011. I cut my hair short for the transition. I have a little blonde left. My hair has never felt and looked better. It is in better condition now than it has been in years. Once all the color is gone, I may let my locks grow. Going silver is one of the best decisions I have made for myself!
