A First for Oscar: Kathryn Bigelow, Best Director

Kathryn Bigelow, 58, took home the Oscar for Best Director for "The Hurt Locker," which also won Best Picture.

She is the first woman ever to win the Academy Award for direction, as co-hosts Steve Martin, left, and Alec Baldwin join her on stage at the Kodak Theater in Hollywood.

Her ex-husband James Cameron was also nominated as a best director for "Avatar," which was up for Best Picture in a year that 10 films were nominated.
