From Runway to Roadway: Fashion Trends in Auto Design

Think only fashionistas think about things like trendy colors, proportions and materials? The car industry is just as concerned with integrating the right car into your life as fashion designers are with creating the perfect dress. We chatted with Ford designer Anthony Prozzi (who has a fashion background at the likes of Donna Karan) about what to expect next from Ford Motor Company.

Blast From the Past

Fashion designers love to borrow from the past. That craving for all things yesteryear — including the counterculture of the '60s — is also present in auto design according to Anthony Prozzi, Ford designer.

Although the '60s was a decade of tumultuous change, "Isn't that what's going on right now?" questions Anthony.

"It's not about being nostalgic, but rather of the concept of the '60s being a decade of emancipation for women," Anthony says.

On the runway, the best examples of retro looks are reimagined – instead of strictly interpreted – by the likes of Miuccia Prada (pictured, top).

Look for: Cars like the Mustang, which is definitely a sexy car with a nod to the past. Anthony calls it a "lust for the muscle car."
