From Runway to Roadway: Fashion Trends in Auto Design

Think only fashionistas think about things like trendy colors, proportions and materials? The car industry is just as concerned with integrating the right car into your life as fashion designers are with creating the perfect dress. We chatted with Ford designer Anthony Prozzi (who has a fashion background at the likes of Donna Karan) about what to expect next from Ford Motor Company.

Intense Color

"The No. 1 influencer is always color," says Ford Motor Company designer Anthony Prozzi.

Yves Klein blue or what most of us refer to as bright or electric blue, was a hit on the runways of Diane von Furstenberg (pictured, top) and other designers who showed styles for Fall 2011. But it's also a trend that you can expect to see on automobiles in 2012 and beyond, according to Anthony Prozzi.

This particular shade of blue "represents a movement to unify and work together," according to Anthony. He adds that strong, intense colors like a "highly saturated orange" represent a search for a new gold standard in uncertain economic times.

Look for: Electric blue, bright pinks, saturated oranges and reds.
