From Runway to Roadway: Fashion Trends in Auto Design

Think only fashionistas think about things like trendy colors, proportions and materials? The car industry is just as concerned with integrating the right car into your life as fashion designers are with creating the perfect dress. We chatted with Ford designer Anthony Prozzi (who has a fashion background at the likes of Donna Karan) about what to expect next from Ford Motor Company.

Tech, Seamlessly Integrated

From clothing with solar panels to thermocromic technology (where prints/colors get more vivid according to your body temperature), there is much more to some fashion than meets the eye on the runway thanks to cutting-edge technology. One famous example of high-tech fashion was Katy Perry's LED light dress by Cute Couture (pictured, top) that she wore to the Met gala last year.

Not surprisingly, the integration of technology is also the same in automobiles. For example, thanks to Ford technologies, your car knows your appointments and what kind of music you want to listen to, says Anthony Prozzi, Ford designer. He points out that Sync and MyFord Touch are interfaces that enable you to communicate with your environment.

Look for: Vehicles like the Ford Vertrek (pictured, bottom), which is a new compact SUV with all the latest technology. "it's adaptable beyond one function," notes Anthony. "And can look cool, hip, stylish and take you to all the places you want to go."
