Trendspotting at the 2012 SAG Awards

The Screen Actors Guild awards, as award shows go, is pretty painless. Short, sweet, and to the point, it’s all about the acting – and the fashion. Transgenerational trends we saw: ponytails, chandelier earrings, oyster dresses, cap sleeves, and lots of texture in the form of beading, embroidery and embellishment.

SAG: Berry Best

Mulberry, cranberry, raspberry — all the berry hues were on view but for my money Mary Steenburgen, soon to celebrate 59 on Feb. 8, pulled it off best with the cowl neck halter top, chandelier earrings (another strong trend) and asymmetrical embellishment at the waist.

Dianna Agron's braided up-do is a great hairstyle to try though. My girl posse likened Sofia Vergara's strapless to the prow of a ship, and Julie Bowen looked a bit shapeless, especially compared to her successful dress at the Golden Globes.
