Trendspotting at the 2012 SAG Awards

The Screen Actors Guild awards, as award shows go, is pretty painless. Short, sweet, and to the point, it’s all about the acting – and the fashion. Transgenerational trends we saw: ponytails, chandelier earrings, oyster dresses, cap sleeves, and lots of texture in the form of beading, embroidery and embellishment.

SAG: Ponytails

Normally ponytails are just too casual for the red carpet, but the SAG awards are ostensibly a more casual event. Hard to believe that with all the sequins, though.

Diane Lane's and Sofia Vergara's (right) look almost upscale enough. For Shailene Woodley, whose dress was called 'wallpaper' (and she looked so lovely at the Golden Globes) and Ellie Kemper (her dress likened to a bathing suit), the hairstyle is age appropriate. What do you think?
