It took a few months, but the answer to a column I posted: “Should Models Look Like You?” is a resounding Yes. A Cambridge dissertation surveyed over 3,000 women to confirm what may be obvious to you & me; here a few over-50 models which bear out the results, with a few weighing in on the topic.
At 46, Kristen McMenamy is still walking the runways. And part of the reason is her defiantly singular style completed by a shocking long mane of unrepentant gray. She often serves as designer Karl Lagerfeld's runway muse, as here (bottom).
As the Care2 article points out: "[The research] could have significant implications for the way that the fashion industry projects an ideal which really doesn't look like many women..."
McMenamy's presence on the runway indicates fledgling efforts to change that.
